The Cardinals began their back-up plan on Wednesday in Jupiter, Florida.  Lance Lynn got the start as he becomes the possible replacement for Chris Carpenter in the rotation.  Carpenter continues to deal with a bulging disc in his neck, and it’s unclear when he’ll return to the mound.  Lynn pitched three shutout innings against the Houston Astros giving up only 2 hits.

Cards lost the game 4-3 despite a 13 hit attack.  Matt Holliday had 3 hits and Yadier Molina had 2.
