Inefficient windows are a major source of heat loss and a cause of thermal discomfort and high heating bills. Replacing such inefficient windows can be a good investment, namely in apartments and in properly insulated and sealed homes.

Storm windows can be a good alternative to cheap replacement windows.
Pleated and cellular shades can also provide some benefits, as long as there isn’t significant convective currents caused by poor air sealing.
Insulation kits applied to the indoor window frames with a tape can also be cheap and effective, contrary to films applied directly on the glass.
